The steps I use go something like this (constantly being altered)

  1. Record w/ Hauppauge on PS3 (uses ArcSoft Showbiz)
  2. Clip out unnecessary footage in Showbiz's simple editor (has clipping and transitions, that's all), leave 10-15 seconds on each end of clip ( I do this to shorten buffering, import and conversion times)
  3. set aside
  4. Create any intros or outro's using After Effects to get high-quality media generated clips (keep video imports limited because of buffering and conversion times) (my 4 second intro took almost 2 hours to finish compiling into .avi from AE)
  5. Edit any sound files with sound forge or build my own in fruity loops
  6. I then compile all of my files in sony vegas (the shorter the files the better)
  7. Place all clips in respective order, add transitions, sound effects, music, any basic video effects, etc.
  8. Convert the file back to .avi for a full rendered edition, then if necessary for coloring masks or high-quality finishing effects transfer the file back into After effects for final conversion and then...
  9. upload

I hope this helps answer your questions. I think if a pro editor got on here he'd correct me but I believe I'm heading in the right direction.
