Adding Custom thumbnail pics (Without partner)

Hello guys! I have noticed recently that someone I have subbed to who isn't partnered it able to add custom Thumbnails to their videos. When I asked them how to do it they told me and I followed their instructions yet there was no option for me to add custom thumb nails. Does anyone here know why this is happening?

Do you have any type of strikes? If yes,You can't upload custom thumbnails.

If not then, just wait you will get it eventually maybe.

I am not 100% sure, but that's how I got thumbnails.

I've never had any strikes before and I can't upload custom thumbnails. This is before I removed my videos.

I didnt think it was possible without being partnered honestly. And it pisses me off. I have an epic one for my rants.

Im JUST GUESSING mind you, but..
I would say that they Probably just randomly pick a channel that Has
100% Good Standing and an “OK” amount of activity.
Activity=(total Channel Views + Subscribers) and they would Also most likely have to be what YouTube considers to be an “active poster”
(2-3 videos per week) <<< I THINK this is still true, it might have changed recently. Im not sure
Now what they consider to be an “OK” to “Good” amount of activity? That’s Anyone’s guess

Just to update this thread. I am now able to upload custom thumbnails. I don't know for how long I was able to before I noticed, but I definitely can now. Maybe YouTube is just expanding user permissions or something.

I seen a lot of people with some custom thumbnails but i could never find a way to get mine like that it was annoying >_<
Hopefully i get this partnership monday even though the Leader of VironTV said he put me down on the list for people getting partnership
I was so excited to hear that from him last night it was unbelievable
Also their a chance he might not give it to me so i'm kind of nervous

just stay active or get partnered

I can also upload my own thumpnails !
All I did is, monetarise my channel, alow advertisment on my vids and then you just have to wait, I took like 1 or 2 days and I got the option for custom thumpnails.
I only got 14 subs and 3,5k views, so that can't be the reason

Allowing them to monotize vids is what allows this to happen it's like being semi-partnered

Monetizing vids has nothing to do with it. I have never monetized a thing and I now have the custom thumbs.
