I use Fraps for my gameplay recording which I believe is an excellent piece of recording software as not only does it record the video but can also record an external audio input like a microphone or headset it also displays the Frames Per Second (FPS) at any of the four corners of your desktop that you select. The only con I have found with it is that it can be demanding on the game if you're playing something it's running smoothly but if you're doing something else in the background Fraps does lag alot.
For my editing I use Camtasia Studio 7 which allows me to select the resolution of my video and the speed and other useful editing traits. It also has the ability to save files into a highly compressed .mp4 format allowing quick uploads to youtube. So far I have found no cons with Camtasia.
